Highlighted project: Digital material Swatches
Down to the fiber
Viltopdemuur.nl also makes use of the power of 3D visualizations
For their catalog, I created digital felt rolls where the texture, depth, and soft structure of the material were digitally recreated.
The renders are based on the real properties of wool felt: from density and fiber length to the way it catches light. This makes the project not only visually convincing but also technically remarkable. The fiber structure was built with geometry nodes — a technique that allows you to recreate materials at the microstructural level. A beautiful application of visualization power within a niche market, where digital material samples are becoming increasingly valuable.

The proces
sifting through the shapes
Finding the right shape wasn’t easy. We needed a shape that would show all of the felt’s characteristics in one shot without making it look cluttered when showcased on a selling page. I provided a range of variations that higlighted the flexibility, the depth of the color and most of all: the softness of the felt.
Why is this step important?
These variation helps the creative juices flow and shows the client the range of shapes that can be achieved through this method.
